Fishing & Camping on St John Island Singapore

Camping sites near the sea are quite limited in Singapore. Some of the well known sites includes Bedok Jetty and East Coast of Singapore requires you to apply for a permit to setup tents along the beach. Below is an article about one of the not so well known camping sites for anglers on a nearby island of Singapore.

St John island is accessible by both public ferry and private charters. Private charters cost between 80 to 90sgd per trip whereas public ferry costs only 18sgd for a round trip. Camping is allowed on the island. Usually we just take the shelter near the jetty as our camping site.

The shelter is right in between the causeway and the jetty. We usually fish on the causeway during the way and move to the jetty at night after the last ferry has left. We have both gas stove and wood stove. Its enough for 4 of us.

I don’t mean to be exaggerated but we do bring a whole kitchen to the island. Its necessary when you want to do some decent cooking like deep frying Half Beak (Gar Fish).

do we need to apply permit (camp/fish overnight) for st john island?

We used to just write down names upon arriving. Don’t think permit is needed for now.
