On our previous trip we found a spot that is very productive however due to lack of fresh bait we didn’t manage to catch much. This time round we are all well prepared. Heading straight to the spot right after we has landed at the jetty. It was a several minute walk from the ferry terminal.

Without much waste much time, I went straight to prep berley which consists of bread and prawn paste. Took me about 10 min to fully prepare it to the right consistency, not too rummy and not too dry. This is vital because if too rummy it will scatter mid air and to dry it will not spread when it land in the water. A specialise scoop is needed as I have tried DIY ladle it just doesn’t work. The ideal berley presentation will be in ball in mid air that way you are able to cast it further and it will be more precise to the area you wanted it to be. Study the current direction of the day before you starts your berley, as you do not want waste it by casting to the wrong direction. Rule of thumb, if the current are going from left to right direction cast your berley to your left that way the current will bring your berley to the targeted spot.

While I was busy preparing berley, he swiftly setup his fishing equipment. He is using a 4.5m ISO rod paired with a size 500 spinning reel. Total rod and reel weigh in less that 500 grammes. This combination allows him to fish all day with less fatigue. The swell was around 2.6 m according to the website. He caught his record “lai mang” within an hour.

This is was he said “This guy came in and gave me a shock! Hooked with just a small piece of squid and prawn combination. My rock fishing rod was bent like a rainbow by this guy. Felt helpless in the behining untill i managed to pull him near the shore and landed him with one big tug. It almost BROKE my rod!!”

We were in panic situation as we didn’t bring our landing net almost drop the fish to the ledge!

Next is my turn, I’m using a 4.5m long ISO rod with a size 2500 reel and my rig was a size 0.8 float with 0.8 mid-water float, size 3 split shot on a no.2 Fluoro Carbon line. A single Size 1 Gamakatsu Chinu hook with 1.5m snood line tie to no.2 main line.
